We are taught to believe that the law enforcement officers are here to protect us. Why else would they also be referred to as “peace officers”? Their purpose is supposed to be to serve and protect the people within their jurisdiction. Although this may have been the case in the past, things seem to be taking a drastic change.

If you spend any time online, you’ve undoubtedly noticed a rash of reports and videos involving police brutality. It’s become common for them to pepper spray, beat, and even shoot and kill people who don’t appear to have provoked them or even resisted. The vast majority of those involved in these incidences are never held accountable for their actions. This disturbing trend probably has you wondering what has gone wrong. How have we fallen so far from a place where we used to feel safe around police to now feeling frightened?
